A Rose for Emily——Rousing Our Sorrowful Emotion for Emily
--------Response to A Rose for Emily
After finishing reading this thought-provoking novel, several questions occurring to my mind, for example why does she chose to ruin her own life in the almost sealing house, I just feel sad for the poor Emily from my heart because she could have a brilliant and sunny, happy and merry, enviable and enjoyable life with her family members. However, the bilateral influences of both his father’s education and her compensations about the attitude to the world outsides totally destroy her life and the life of some innocent persons. What we could do is just rousing our sorrowful emotion for the unbelievable Emily. Thinking over this tragedy carefully, it is of no difficulty for us to realize on point that our sorrowful emotion is deserved to Emily in origin and that her life is inevitably unfortunate because of her continual fear for the outside world and her persistent opinion of in-house being safe.
Her death is not the end of the event, not the end of reader’s thinking. At the end of the story, the narrator mentions the body of Homer Barron in Emily’s house, which gives explanation to all puzzled scenes arranged above, such as Emily buying the poison, she keeping in the house, her servant being mute and so on. All of things could be linked together as the beads are threaded in one line.
We should feel sorrow for the poor Emily when she struggles in the formal education in mental lonely. She has an aspiration for the common and normal life, not the life locked in the terrible house with the friend of loneliness, not the life discarded in the horrible house with the friend of tediousness, not the life littered in the abandon house with the friend of discrimination. She was just a soldier in her in visible war of two contradictory minds, one being out for the dreamy life and the other being in for the safe forever. The appearance of Homer Barron brings the expectation of the new, exciting, hopeful life to Emily. She did enjoy the life with Barron for a certain time as a result of her belief that her brilliant future depends on the Barron. These lead to the tragedy gradually. In my opinion, Emily is really innocent and how stupidly she gambles her future! If she wasn’t addicted in her lover with some rational sense, she will also come out from in-side to out-side and go on enjoy the beautiful life. Unluckily, she chooses
another road of her life when Barron plans to leave away.
We should rouse sorrow for the poor Emily when she chooses the wrong way to deal with difficulty with the originally in-side mind that is the winner of the mental war of In-side and Out-side. She turns back to the in-side minds that her father nurtures and even develops this in-side minds because of her irritation and disappointment of the out-side minds. In her eye of the little and innocent girl, the in-side mind is much better than the cheating out-side mind and the in-side mind is , in final, the most safe way to live, at least, there being no cheats in the only-one-existing world. She wants to take Barron in out-side into in-side, thus only by killing her lover can she bring him into the isolated world separated from the normal world. She keeps her secret keeping no trace of other any person, and making her servant mute. Her mind of safe-in –side makes her crazy and leads the abnormal life.
What happens to Emily is just rousing our sorrowful emotion for her, the poor woman

the women in white
it is a story of greed and evil, innocence and betrayal, confused identities and
cruel deceptions. it also contains love.whenmr. hart right and miss fairle were
separated, they still missed each other much in their own minds and never give up this
loyal love.in the end, the gained a happy ending. it reminded me of the things we
once loved.sometimes,we are eager about something, such as hobbies and dreams.we think
we can keep it eternally in our mind but if always is impossible.we forget it without
thinking when we put our thorough attention on others, such as study or career. at
last,we lose too much love we once took possession of. they always are most beautiful
things in our life.i do hope we can pay more attention to find and preserve this beauty.in this novel, i especially admire laura’s sister marian. she is kind, calm and
clever. walter is a handsome and capable man, marian and laura spent 4 months learning
drawing from walter, i’m sure she loved walter, but she was selfless and made all
her efforts to help the couple be together. she isn’t a beautiful woman, but she
is favored by the readers.william wilkie collins was an english
novelist, playwright, and author of short stories. he was very popular during the
victorian era and wrote 30 novels, more than 60 short stories, 14 plays, and more
than 100 nonfiction essays. collins was a lifelong friend of charles dickens. a the invisible man
phenomenon. in the fist place, technology may breed endless greedless. this is
well illustrated with griffin, who used technology as a tool to make a fortune, even
conduct other evil behavior. in the second place, if a scientist does not have a sense
of justice and responsibility, misuse will ensure. this scientist is just a case in
point, he planed to begin a reign of terror, using his invisibility to terrorize the nation with kemp as his secret
confederate.
in a word, this is both thought-provoking and interesting story.the mayor of casterbridgehardy mainly reflects the main character’s tragically fate to illustrate the
strong force and blind function of fate. human beings can never escape from the puzzle
and grief, which is manipulated by tragically fate. in the novel, hardy’s main
characters seem to be victims of a blind fate. hardy’s pessimism is mainly portrayed
by character’s fate.
the failure of henchard and lucetta can be reflected hardy’s view that human
beings are never free enough to exert their own will on the universe. through reading the novel, the thing impressed me most is hardy’s deep sympathies
are reserved for those people who are unable to protect themselves against fate. hardy
does not see them as helpless victims. indeed, there are frequent expressions of hope
for the future. that is the rea(转 载于:www.hnNscy.CoM 博文学习网:小说英文读后感)l significance of hardy’s pessimism.jamaica inn
s aunt patience is also a victim to the cruelty of her husband. secondly, loyalty and courage.as aunt patience is loyal to her husband, so mary
is loyal to her aunt. mary has courage and strength of character which prevents her
from running away from jamaica inn. she stays to protect her aunt from joss merlyn,
and tells him on their first evening that if he ever hurts patience she will set the
law against him. this show of courage saves her from the bully. in a word , i love this story , respect mary’s courage and admire the author’
s imagination and wisdom.’
great expectation
if we never posses anything, we will not mind we lost something. since we don’
t want to be very rich, we will not fell despond because poor. the title o this book
is great expectation which make an impression on i have learnt a lot from this novel. i believe the real gentlemen are not those
who are rich, they should also be generous and kind. and, money may buy many things,
but it can’t buy friendship and happiness. it is not worth gaining the money and
social position at the cost of losing the precious things. charles dickens was an english writer and social critic. he created some of the
worlds most memorable fictional characters and is generally regarded as the greatest
novelist of the victorian period. during his life, his works enjoyed unprecedented
fame, and by the twentieth century his literary genius was broadly acknowledged by
critics and scholars. his novels and short stories continue to be widely popular.
